History of the Service Station & Repair Shop Operators of Upstate New York, Inc.

The Service Station and Repair Shop Operators of Upstate New York Inc. (SSRSOUNY) is a non-profit trade association formed in 1966 and incorporated under New York State law in 1972. The Association was formed to bring about better business conditions for the petroleum retailer and to develop a diversified package of significant dealer-member benefits.

Realizing that the interest of both repair shops and gasoline service stations are intertwined, the Association eventually took repair shop owners in as members as well.

The Association is recognized nationally and in New York state as one of the most aggressive trade associations of its type. Many associations across the U.S. are trying to equal our record of accomplishments, particularly in the area of legislation.

Retail gasoline dealers, service station dealers, and repair shop owners have discovered the many advantages of belonging to this Association. The Association is an active member of the New York State Association of Service Stations and the Service Station Dealers of America, which gives our members representation on the state level, as well as, on the national level.

Any eligible business person who joins this Association and participates in just a few of the programs we have to offer, will find that the savings you receive will more than justify the dues you pay. It pays to be an Association member. Remember... "We Do Better Together"

How Does The Association Help Its Members?

The Association employs an Executive Director who gives all members top priority. He can help you with licensing questions, problems with your sales representatives, or any general concern you may have regarding your business. The Executive Director is constantly working with an array of companies in order to attain new benefits for our membership. Also we employ an Administrative Assistant, who is in the office daily from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, just a phone call away when a question arises.

We have a Board of Directors made up of service station dealers and repair shop owners, just like yourself. All of the Board members can be reached easily by phone to answer any questions you may have about your business, or the Association.

We belong to the New York State Association of Service Stations, based in Albany, and to the Service Station Dealers of America (SSDA), based in Washington DC. This provides us a pipeline into both capitols where decisions are made that affect your business and its everyday operations. We are constantly using these connections to keep you abreast of pending laws, rules, regulations, and legislation that you need to be aware of. We continually attend political fund-raisers for the purpose of supporting our efforts to fight for positive legislation and to lobby against negative legislation.

We publish and distribute to each member a monthly news bulletin, News & Views, that is full of updated industry news, member profiles, and management tips. This way you can be informed of every new development, current issues and any "hot" topics that may arise.

We sponsor clinics, educational training courses, and seminars. Some of these are in cooperation with the DMV or Onondaga Community College. These classes/seminars give technicians a working knowledge of the new technological changes and advances that are introduced into our industry so frequently. We sponsor a free "Round Table" discussion. This gives members the opportunity to share with each other their thoughts and ideas regarding such issues as profit making strategies, employee pay plans, and any other subjects pertaining to the day to day operation of your business.

This Association is constantly striving to help our members prosper. As our motto states... "We Do Better Together"
