  Roxana S. (Sterling) Barnes, age 56, of Lindley, NY, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 28th, 2006, at home with her loving husband and son by her  side. Roxana is the daughter of Gerald and Mary Tickner Sterling, born December 20th, 1949 in Elmira. 

Surviving is her husband of 31 years, James Savino; son, Frank at home; parents, Mary and Gerald Sterling; sister,   Sandra (David) Kary of TN; brothers, Robert (Sue Anne) Sterling of Pine City; Ken (Gloria) Sterling of Pine   Valley; sister-in-law, Sandy  Sterling of Florida and Pine City; and several nieces and nephews; her daughter, Alexis Eileen Savino; and brother, Roger Sterling, predeceased Roxana. Family and friends were invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, on Saturday, March 4, 2006, from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Roxana's life was held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 3 p.m. The Reverend Donald Rockwell  officiated. Interment took place in the Webb Mills Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Roxana was a member of the Elmira Business And Professional Women's Club, and the founding Secretary of the Service Station Operators Association of the Southern Tier, Inc., where she was also employed as Executive Director since 1974. Roxana was very proud to be the first women in the world to hold an executive management position in the Service Station Operators Assoc. She was very proud of the Powder Puff Trophy she won. At one time she was an avid softball player, she loved camping with her family, traveling, and NASCAR races.  Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Golden Wrench Award (Educational Award) or the Charles Kellogg Scholarship Award, c/o The Service Station Operators Assoc., 932 River Rd., Lindley, NY 14858-9754.      Roxana was a dedicated advocate for all independent service stations and repair shop operators in the Southern Tier and statewide. We will miss her enthusiasm, dedication, and contributions to this industry. The industry has lost one of its shining stars.
